We are currently in the process of recruiting new umpires and are looking for individuals who have the desire and enthusiasm to umpire adult softball and the work ethic to learn and be the best possible umpire.

Our association will provide training sessions in rules and mechanics to help you get a good start in your umpiring career.

Whether you’re new to umpiring, have called in the past, or returning to the game there’s a place for you with Austin Softball Umpires Association.

If you are a former player, manager or coach, the Austin Softball Umpire Association is interested in your skills. Just like being a player only you are watching every pitch, hit, catch, and out for both teams but, you get paid.

Tell me more about the training…….

New Umpires joining the Austin Softball Umpire Association as a member must first take part in our ongoing Umpire Development and Training program where you will be provided the tools to be am umpire.

All new umpires must complete our field clinic where you will learn the mechanics of umpiring. This includes the proper way to make an out call, safe call, strike call, etc; proper positioning for making calls; how to communicate with other umpires on the field; and division of responsibilities on the field. We take pride on having the best umpires in the entire state – it is during these field clinics that the foundation for this excellence is laid.

Once you complete the field clinic, you will need to pass the association national written exam.  The open book exam is multiple choice to make sure you under the rules of the game.

While on the field, you will be provided a senior umpire as your mentor whom will help you master the basics and to become a successful umpire. Our goal is to help you succeed.

New umpire candidates will be provided with a current rule book and umpires manual to study.

If you have any questions or wish to sign-up for our next training camp, please contact the President or the Vice-President.
